QR Codes are increasing in use for menu's, payment options and links to company websites. Of course this means the cyber criminals are going to try and use this fact to their advantage.

These scams are REAL!
QR codes are increasingly used by legitimate organizations, but scammers are using them to steal credentials and money. According to Bleeping Computer, a recent victim to this scam lost $20,000 from their account when they scanned a QR code sticker on a tea shop for a “free cup of milk tea”.
It downloaded an app onto her phone to complete the supposed survey. Instead, the app gave scammers access to the victim’s screen, to monitor and steal any credentials they entered.
There are also reports of fake parking tickets in US and UK, with QR codes redirecting victims to lookalike sites of legitimate organizations. After the victim enters their credit card information to pay for the fake ticket, money is stolen from their account.
Another example of QR scam came from a motorist who tried to pay for parking using a malicious QR code stuck to the parking meter. It is hard to differentiate between a legitimate and malicious QR codes.
Be cautious of QR codes you scan and use them only when you are confident of the source. Do not give unknown apps permission to your phone’s microphone, camera or accessibility service.
